Reducing Uninsured Driving

Working together to make UK roads safer by tackling uninsured driving

The Impact of Uninsured Driving

Uninsured driving is a serious problem that affects all road users in the UK. Every year, thousands of accidents involve uninsured drivers, leading to significant financial and personal costs.

Beyond the financial impact, uninsured driving puts all road users at risk. Uninsured drivers are more likely to be involved in accidents and to flee the scene, leaving victims without proper compensation.

Our Initiatives

Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE)

AskMid supports the CIE scheme, which compares vehicle records against the Motor Insurance Database. Vehicle owners without insurance receive warning letters and may face penalties including fines, court prosecution, and vehicle seizure.

Police Enforcement

We work closely with police forces across the UK, providing them with direct access to the Motor Insurance Database. This allows officers to immediately verify a vehicle's insurance status during roadside checks.

Police can seize uninsured vehicles on the spot, with owners facing a £150 recovery fee and £20 daily storage charges. Vehicles not claimed within 14 days may be destroyed.

Public Awareness Campaigns

AskMid regularly conducts awareness campaigns to educate drivers about the risks and consequences of uninsured driving. These campaigns target high-risk groups and areas with above-average rates of uninsured vehicles.

"Our goal is to make uninsured driving socially unacceptable. By raising awareness of the consequences and making it easier to comply with insurance requirements, we can reduce the number of uninsured vehicles on our roads."
